What is a Psychologist?

Psychologists are highly trained professionals with expertise in the areas of human behavior, mental health assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and behavior change. Psychologists work with patients to improve the mental health of individuals, couples, families, and groups by applying scientifically validated procedures to help people change their thoughts, emotions and behaviors in order to develop healthier, more effective patterns. Psychologists’ primary activities include psychological testing and evaluation, diagnosis of psychological difficulties, psychotherapy, research, teaching, and consultation. Psychologists are present in a variety of settings, including hospitals, mental health clinics, independent practices, primary and secondary schools, employee assistance programs, and corporations.

“Happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them.”
